Difference between Atomizer, Cartomizer & Clearomizer

Overview of Atomizer vs. Cartomizer vs. Clearomizer

Atomizer, Cartomizer, & Clearomizer are devices/shisha pens that you screw a battery or power supply onto to deliver e-liquid in vapor form. They are the 3 type of devices available on the market. All 3 type of devices work on the principle of heating eliquid to a vaporization temperature. There is no clear winner between Atomizer, Cartomizer & Clearomizer. Some prefer one over the other, each of the 3 has its own pros and cons which are explained in more detail below.

Overview of an Atomizer

Atomizers are the original device. They have a small capacity and are best for people who prefer dripping. Atomizers have a heating coil on the bottom with a metal mesh on the coil.

Pros of an Atomizer

  • Perfect for dripping (Dripping eliquid direct onto Atomizer coil), Easy switch between different flavours of juice
  • Simple design
  • Low cost
  • Easy to refill

Cons of an Atomizer

  • Need to continuously refill an atomizer for heavy/moderate vaping
  • Atomizers are rebuildable but require considerable skill
  • Hard to track amount of e-liquid left inside

Overview of a Cartomizer

Cartomizers are similar to the atomizer. The difference is cartomizers have polyfill around a heating coil. A polyfill soaks e-liquid which allows for a longer vape time over the atomizer. Some designs of cartomizers are housed inside an even larger cylindrical tank that can hold an even larger capacity of e-liquid

Pros of an Cartomizer

  • Hold more eliquid over an atomizer
  • Low cost
  • Easy to refill
  • Fairly easy to rebuild

Cons of an Cartomizer

  • May not be suitable for heavy vaping.
  • Some people believe that polyfill material dulls the e-liquid flavour
  • May retain flavour from previous e-liquid
