Why is CBD so popular with celebrities?
CBD interacts with a system in the body known as the endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system is primarily responsible for regulating our physiological and cognitive functions and encompasses things like (but not limited to) appetite, mood, immunity, pain sensation and memory.
Not only is CBD clearly popular among a widespread demographic, but the formats by which CBD is ingested and the reasons for doing so vary considerably. From CBD oil for fast acting results to slow release CBD capsules: let's take a look at some of the reasons CBD is so popular among celebrities.
Whilst there are no current definitive studies to prove that CBD is in fact an anti-inflammatory and viable source of pain relief it has been adopted and used by many for just that. CBD is commonly used to provide relief from arthritis along with other joint pains, as well neuropathic pain and chronic pains such as fibromyalgia. For those with particularly strenuous lifestyles, think top tier athletes, these reductions in inflammation and pain are crucial in order to be able to maintain an elite level of function.
Relief from stress, anxiety and depression
In much the same way CBD is thought to provide relief from stress, anxiety and depression. These ailments are, in part, a result of low serotonin levels: a neurotransmitter that plays an important role in mental health. Through interaction with CB1 and CB2 receptors, it is thought that CBD may play a role in altering the levels of serotonin, thus improving mood and reducing the symptoms of these conditions. There is also evidence to suggest that the relaxing benefits of CBD include improved sleep cycles, which in turn can provide relief from stress, anxiety and depression - ideal when you are living a high octane, fast paced lifestyle.
Reduction in the symptoms of cancer and neurological disorders
By modulating different cell signalling pathways in gliomas, lymphoma, prostate, breast, skin, and pancreatic cancer cells CBD has demonstrated an ability to inhibit tumour cell growth. It has also shown great promise with respect to improving the quality of life of those suffering with conditions such as MS, Parkinson's and Alzheimers. Whilst further research is required, this is surely a worthwhile enough cause for any public figure or celebrity to advocate and promote CBD use.
Improve skin quality
An overproduction of a waxy, oily substance that our skin produces called sebum can lead to skin ailments such as acne. CBD, particularly when applied as topical creams, is not only proven to reduce the overproduction of sebum, but is also shown to provide pain relief in the same way as it does for other painful conditions.
