How to look after your vape, mod & tank

Posted: September 20, 2017

Looking after your vapouriser is the best way to keep up the quality of your vaping experience, keeping things fresh and reducing how often you need to invest in a new pen. Whether you’re new to vaping or just need a recap on the basics of care and maintenance, take a look at our tips below. Once you get into the routine it’s easy to stick to and becomes second nature.

1. Buy a quality pen

First things first pick a pen that’s been made to high quality standards and has been built to last. Not to toot our own horn, but we’ve got a great e-cigarette selection and we’re sure your new favourite pen can be found here. Just remember to check the size and mods so you know exactly what you’re getting, for example, will you be able to change the settings to alter your clouds?

2. Clean your coil

This is absolutely essential to your vapourisers longevity. As you vape, the coil can get ‘gunked up’ with residue from chemicals in the oils and this stops it working at it’s best and will have an impact on the flavour of your vape. In the first instance you can clean the residue from your coil in warm water, but you can also buy replacement coils and you should always avoid dry burning the coil as this causes damage. On average a coil will last for 2-3 days worth of vaping and you can choose different resistances for different experiences. The higher the resistance the cooler the vape.

3. Clean your tank

Tanks don’t last forever but with regular maintenance you can get great value by making them last longer. This involves cleaning them for a smooth vaping experience every time. Why do they need cleaning? Over time you may get a slightly burnt taste - this is caused by the wick burning out in the tank at the same time as the coil getting covered in residue.

Clean your tank with this step-by-step guide:

- Unscrew the tank from the battery and then unscrew the cap of the tank, safely removing any leftover e-liquid. - Use clean water to rinse the empty tank and shake to remove moisture. - Use a cotton swab - dipped in water - to clean the battery and tank cap. - Wait until all parts are completely dry before reassembling. - While cleaning never submerge the battery and don’t opt for soap - clean water is enough.

4. Check your battery

- Keep your battery charged and drain it completely before your next charge to 100%. - Check both sides of your battery for damage and if you can see anything unusual immediately stop using it and get a replacement battery. - Your battery should always be the correct voltage for your pen. - Don’t charge your battery and leave it unattended. As you can see, battery health is pretty commonsensical but it’s about being aware and making sure the basic checks are made.

5. Don’t let it overheat

You’ve probably heard the horror stories of exploding e-cigs but this is incredibly rare and usually caused by mis-storage. However, you need to be aware that the coil in the e-cig can overheat and this will lead to a burning taste and will require the coil to be replaced and sometimes also the e-liquid that was being used. To avoid overheating, don’t vape for too long. When you feel it warming up, take a break so it can cool. Keeping the coil clean - gunk free - will stop heat from getting trapped, so it’s a win win situation.

6. Invest in a case

The easiest way to look after your vapouriser is by using a case when you’re taking it out with you and for storage when you’re not using it. This reduces the chance of it going missing, getting scratched, stepped on and damaged in any way. Browse our accessories and cases here. So, feel more prepared than ever before? We try our best.
