What is CBD oil?

Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, is one of over 100 different cannabinoids found within the cannabis plant or hemp plant. CBD interacts with our body's endocannabinoid system and helps to relieve symptoms of various ailments. It is completely legal in the U.K, most of Europe, the U.S.A, Canada and Australia to name a few.

CBD oil is a wellness product that has many benefits and applications such as:

  • Pain relief of acute and chronic pain
  • To relieve anxiety
  • To aid sleep
  • To relieve stress
  • For relaxation

For many users taking CBD is easy as there are so many different types of products like; edibles, vape, creams and lotions and oils and tinctures.

How to cook with CBD oils

There are many different ways to cook with CBD oils and a couple of essential things to remember when doing so.

There is no real limit as to what you can add CBD to, you can add it to:

  • A shake
  • Smoothies
  • Sauces
  • Baked goods

Do not add your CBD oil to direct heat

CBD oil and tincture can be quite pricey and well, if you add it directly to a hot pan or boiling liquid it will quite literally go up in smoke. When cooking with CBD oil, be aware of how much you are heating it. Applying lots of heat can damage the cannabinoids and even destroy them leaving your CBD dish pretty much without CBD.

If the dish, sauce or drink you are adding CBD oil to requires a lot of heat, wait until your sauce or food of choice has cooled before stirring your CBD into it. If you have to serve the dish boiling hot, this might not be the one to add CBD oil to.

CBD and baking

When baking, try to add the CBD after the cooking part is done. For example, you will preserve the effectiveness of the CBD by adding it to the buttercream with your vanilla extract or the icing of a cake rather than baking it.

Keeping your CBD oil at low temperatures ensures you save more of the good stuff. The same applies to soups and sauces, allow them to cool before adding your favourite CBD blend.

How long until the CBD takes effect?

Wait patiently for the effects of the CBD - when ingesting foods that contain CBD oil, remember that the digestion and metabolisation processes take a while. Eating CBD will not provide effects as quickly as a highly bioavailable vape CBD or oral oil taken sublingually.

Cooking for company

Mealtimes are for sharing and enjoying friends and family's company. Be sure to let everybody know about the CBD content of the meal before giving it to people. CBD can interact with other medications so exercise caution when hosting guests and let them know.

Mix other oils with your CBD

Pair your CBD with healthy fats - oils like coconut oil, avocado oil and olive oil are perfect. Cannabinoids love healthy fats, they are attracted to them. Combining healthy fats into your recipe with CBD oil means that your CBD will be more easily absorbed.

Best foods to add CBD oil to

Adding CBD oil to food is an ideal way to get your dose, it doesn't even have to be cooked and you still get the health benefits. CBD oil comes in many forms and it is best if you are using the correct CBD oil for you. If you are adding the CBD oil to food, it can take longer to work as your stomach must process the CBD before you start to feel the effects.

Here are some of our favourite foods to add CBD to:

  • Salad dressings - Simply stir in and drizzle over
  • Sauces - Allow them to cool before adding CBD oil
  • Soups - Add after serving, stir straight in
  • Baked treats - Add to icing or buttercream
  • Smoothie - Drop into your high speed blender

Of course there is no limit to your creativity, just so long as when you are cooking with CBD oil you are not heating it up too much. Many people enjoy or don't mind the taste of CBD oil but if you aren't a fan then simply opt for a tasteless oil just like the Canyon Falls Oral Oil Flavourless.

Tips for cooking with CBD oil

To be sure you are getting the most out of your CBD product we suggest you stick to a few simple guidelines:

  • Only use your desired strength of CBD, don't go wild. If you are new to CBD and fancy starting your CBD oil journey with cooking, then start with a low dose and slowly increase over time until you find the right amount for you. Most CBD oils recommend starting with 2-3 drops and increasing until your desired effects are achieved (always follow the guidelines of the product you are using).
  • Take care when preparing CBD oil infused food for others - some people, especially those taking medications can be sensitive to CBD products and high doses can be dangerous to those unfortunate few. Always check before serving to others.
  • If you are cooking with CBD oil for a future date, consider adding it in once it is prepared to be served. Freezing your CBD or reheating it many times can damage the valuable goodness inside of it. No need to be over keen to get it in your meals, it will serve you better if you add it when it's about to be eaten.
  • No overheating! Dropping CBD oil directly to your cooking oil will likely kill off most of the good stuff. There aren't many occasions when you add CBD when you start cooking - there is always a chance to add CBD afterwards.

Benefits of cooking with CBD oil

There are many benefits of cooking with CBD, these include:

Enjoying your favourite meal in a different way

You get to use your favourite CBD product in your favourite recipes. Why wouldn't you merge your regular wellness routine with your daily cooking ritual? You won't compromise the effectiveness of your CBD oil or the flavour of your favourite recipe, awesome!

The main benefit here is that you can turn something like cooking, that is for nutrition and health, and just give it a massive boost. You have likely seen CBD edibles or at least heard of them and now you can make your own!

CBD is extremely versatile

Although CBD doesn't like too much heat it is in-fact very versatile in that, you can put it in virtually anything. It has a multitude of health benefits and only takes a tiny amount to feel the effects and more often than not it has very little to no flavour or negative side effects.
