What are cannabis seeds?
We’re glad you asked. Cannabis seeds, otherwise known as weed seeds or marijuana seeds, are beautiful and resilient plant seeds that come in a range of genetic types of cannabis plant. In the last few decades, they have become hugely versatile and easy for beginners to master, bred by incredibly talented, award-winning brands all over the world.
Each seed is different and you get certain traits based on their origins and genetic profiles, for example some prefer a hotter climate and some will automatically flower. Top brands include Sensi Seeds, Zambeza Seeds, Dinafem, Big Buddha and Attitude Seeds. Recognise a few?
Here, you’ll find every top brand as well as some of the equally creative little guys, meaning there’s something for everyone, even the most advanced seed specialists looking for something new.
What are feminised seeds and why choose them?
Feminised seeds have specific traits and can be identified by:
- Contain no male chromosomes
- Fertilise themselves
- Save time from dealing with males
One of the major success stories of the last few decades is the huge growth in the quality and range of feminised seeds available on the market. Popular with both our team and our customers, feminised seeds have been genetically bred so that they have no male chromosomes. In short this means that all plants from feminised seeds will flower, increasing the overall yield. This is all possible as the seeds have been produced to make their own pollen and fertilise themselves.
They are also quick and easy to grow and get rid of the hassle of dealing with male plants that would have to be cut down; you don’t have waste time looking identifying and destroying them, saving you time and money. It’s win win.
They’re also incredibly affordable and come in every type you could wish for, including skunk and haze varieties. If you’re looking for the best results for your investment, it’s a no brainer.
What are autoflowering seeds and why choose them?
- Bred to automatically flower
- Quick and easy results (8-10 weeks)
- Potent and resilient
Autoflowering seeds are high performance seeds that will automatically flower from their vegetative state without much effort. With just the minimal amount of TLC, they will flower and generally produce high yields. They can be regular or feminised, so it’s just about making life easier for yourself.
Over the years, they have been developed to be great options for both indica and sativa heavy strains, meaning they’re potent and fast. Like their feminised counterparts, they are also resilient and easy to maintain indoors or outdoors. For this, we can be thankful to the skilled breeders, such as Auto Seeds, Critical Mass and Royal Queen Seeds.
What’s the difference between CBD and THC?
- Non-psychoactive vs psychoactive
Both CBD and THC are active chemicals or cannabinoids present in the marijuana plant and are both able to be extracted from the plant. However, each chemical has very different characteristics.
CBD, or cannabidiol, is the non-psychoactive, generally considered 'medicinal' chemical. Strains have been developed to be very high in CBD and low in THC (less than 0.2% in some cases which isn’t actually considered 'cannabis') for people not looking to activate their senses. It has been reported that benefits of CBD includes pain relief, anti-seizure properties, combatting anxiety and treating sleep issues. Yet there is no current medical studies to approve CBD for such and can only be considered opinion based.
On the other hand, THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is a psychoactive chemical that has a 'buzz' as some may call it. The higher the THC content, the more potent the results. Many have enjoyed the psychoactive components of the cannabis plant for thousands of years. Yet of course, THC is illegal and is the reason germinating our seeds is illegal, yet a good THC seed is a must for our collectors.
It’s also good to know that the effects of CBD counteract the effects of THC, to a point, and there are many different combinations and percentage balances that have been created.
How important is aroma?
We think it’s incredibly important as aromas have the ability to be sweet and tantalising, showcasing specific traits of a seed; it’s a tease. However, it’s all down to your personal preferences as to what you go for. Some love cheese strains, other the fruity kind, or even a wicked combination of both.
Of course, you may want seeds that have less aroma or are odourless so you can store them discreetly. Whatever you decide, we’ve got the right ones for you in our UK seedbank, so stick around and take a look at everything you can get your hands on.
How can you choose your seeds?
We’ve made that easy. You can shop our top ten seeds list based on our most popular seeds, browse by type - feminised or autoflowering (or both) - or alphabetically by brand. Once you dig into our filters you can get really specific and find the best seeds for your collection, from CBD levels to the best seeds for beginners.
We’ve actually got some cool guides on our blog. Check out our beginners guide to choosing the best cannabis seeds and our top tips on how to store and preserve seeds here.
Also, keep a look out for award-winning seeds. If they’ve won the High Times Cup, you simply can’t go wrong and there will be a wealth of information online about those particular strains so you’ll be in the best position when your order arrives.
